What is Wrought Iron?

wrought iron

noun: wrought iron; modifier noun: wrought-iron

  1. a tough malleable form of iron suitable for forging or rolling rather than casting, obtained by puddling pig iron while molten. It is nearly pure but contains some slag in the form of filaments.

Well, that is according to the dictionary! Wrought iron literally means worked iron and is iron that is easily formed into shapes by cutting, welding, bending etc. It is especially popular for making gates and railings such as here within our workshop

Welding wrought iron gates

Wrought iron is different than cast iron which is moulded using a cast and is used for small items such as pans as well as being used a lot years ago for making gates and railings but is not so popular now

All the wrought iron products we make are made from quality mild steel which is then worked into a number of products including our most popular products, gates and railings

Everything we make is bespoke and made to measure how you want it. We like to boast that we can make practically anything in wrought iron! Here are just a few examples of bespoke items we have made for our customers:-

Ornate boot scraper
Bespoke shoe rack
Welly rack
